Team Management · The Story

International Swimming League · New York Breakers

The International Swimming League. The first professional league in the world of swimming. There are 10 teams competing against each other multiple times. With the swimmers racing for a team and not only for themselves this league sets swimming onto a whole new level. In individual and relay events everyone aims to win the most points for their team - consisting of the equal number of males and females. Next to the innovation on a athletic level the International Swimming League gave the world-class athletes from all over the world the opportunity to earn money with their sport. Being paid as a swimmer and more so being able to live from your sport is not that common yet - not even within the professionals.

In 2020 and 2021 I had the opportunity to be the team manager of the New York Breakers. A team consisting of over 30 athletes and 15 staff members from 13 countries and 5 continents. Being able to witness world-class swimmers from all over the world form a team and not only support each other but also push each other beyond the limits was absolutely fascinating. The energy we created in every practice, during warm-up on competition day, in the box during the match cheering and in the bus ride home after an intense day at the pool is unmatched.

In the following some team manager tasks on detail:

Supporting athletes and staff on a day-to-day basis with everything they needed, such as the coordination of press and media appointments and the daily schedule

Supporting the league and local organization committee with the communication towards the team

Management of the team sponsors and partners, as well as the social media channels and the merch shop

Support of the General Manager and Head Coach

Daily content creation for athletes, staff and the league
